I have a number of good friends, and acquaintances, in the southeast of France (in and around Grenoble), and they all seem to be strongly preferable to downhill skiing. When I was in high school, a friend of mine went to visit a mutual friend of ours in France during the winter, and he went downhill skiing. From what I observed during the time I’ve spent in the region, downhill skiing is very popular, as there are many mountains, and Switzerland is very close by.
However, I’m sure cross country is more popular in flatter areas, like Limousin, than it is in the Rhone Alps.
As to what young people do on Eid Al-Fitr, I don’t know, as I do not know any French Muslims.

Anyways it got me thinking the other day how many Canadians or unique records Canadians have beaten to get into the famous book. Largest Coin
In late April early May of 2007, the Royal Canadian Mint issued the world?s largest gold coin with a face value of $ 1 million. The million-dollar coin weighs 220 pounds and is roughly the size of a 20-inch motorcycle tire. The coin is 99.999 percent pure gold is about an inch thick. Canada got a place in Guinness Book of World Records thanks to this mammoth chunk of gold.
Largest Smoothie
On July 27, 2006, franchise company Booster Juice broke the world?s record for the largest smoothie. The huge drink had 740 litres of fruit juice in it beating out the old record of 333 litres.

Canadian resident Suresh Joachim of Toronto Ontario has broken over 30 Guinness book records since 1991. One of the records he beat was a record to stand one foot for as long as you can. He ended up getting the record in May 1997, when he stood on one foot for 76 hours and 40 minutes. He also got the record for the most constant TV watching. He sat and watched ABC for 69 hours and 48 minutes.

In addition to the over 40 miles of existing trails, Snowmass is proud to roll out the new Vapor trail this June. The Vapor trail is an intermediate downhill mountain biking trail starting at the top of the Elk Camp Lift ending at Café Suzanne, descending 2.64 miles and has a 1,400 foot vertical drop. With berms up to six feet high and natural features including bridges – this trail will impress various levels of riders, from intermediate to advanced.
Weekly Events:
The Snowmass Friday Bike Series will run July 8 – August 12. This six-week downhill mountain bike series will showcase the new downhill trails in Snowmass. This open registration series will feature a unique course starting at the top of Elk Camp Lift and finishing in Base Village. The early evening event will be open to all and geared towards recreational riders with junior and adult divisions.
Daily Activities:
Camp Aspen/Snowmass will offer daily adventures for both children and adults. Many adventures resume on June 2 and all adventures including new Mountain Biking programs, overnight camping for kids and families, paintball and kids fishing will begin on June 24. For something more kid-friendly and family-oriented, a Nature Trail walk is offered daily at 10 a.m. leaving from the Snowmass Ticket Pavilion. All walks are FREE and last approximately two hours.

Slacker Half Marathon, Relay, & 4-Mile Races

Come join us for the highest DOWNHILL half marathon in the country and possibly the highest DOWNHILL 4 Mile Run!
Do not be misled by the name but this is the Slacker Half Marathon/4M Race! It is the highest downhill half marathon in the country—- beginning at 10,630 feet and traveling over a rolling hill descent to 8400 feet! The half marathon begins at Loveland Ski Area and travels the first five miles through a Forest Service area of wetlands and natural waterfalls on a non-motorized paved bike path built to sustain the weight of an ambulance!
The second 4.4 miles travel from Bakerville to Silver Plume along a paved frontage road with amazing views of the Continental Divide and mining remnants.
The last portion of the trail & the 4-Mile race travels from Silver Plume to Georgetown on a paved bike trail (and paved road) with scenic views of the Georgetown Loop Railroad and the largest Bighorn Sheep herd in the State!
The race ends in downtown Georgetown where there are more freebies than you know what to do with!

New Vapor Trail:
In addition to the over 40 miles of existing trails, Snowmass is proud to roll out the new Vapor trail this June. The Vapor trail is an intermediate downhill mountain biking trail starting at the top of the Elk Camp Lift ending at Café Suzanne, descending 2.64 miles and has a 1,400 foot vertical drop. With berms up to six feet high and natural features including bridges – this trail will impress various levels of riders, from intermediate to advanced.
Weekly Events:
The Snowmass Friday Bike Series will run July 8 – August 12. This six-week downhill mountain bike series will showcase the new downhill trails in Snowmass. This open registration series will feature a unique course starting at the top of Elk Camp Lift and finishing in Base Village. The early evening event will be open to all and geared towards recreational riders with junior and adult divisions.
Daily Activities:
Camp Aspen/Snowmass will offer daily adventures for both children and adults. Many adventures resume on June 2 and all adventures including new Mountain Biking programs, overnight camping for kids and families, paintball and kids fishing will begin on June 24. Ski to Sea Race

The Ski to Sea Race takes place on Sunday of every Memorial Day weekend.
The annual Ski to Sea Race from Mt. Baker to Bellingham Bay can be traced back to the Mt. Baker Marathon held from 1911 to 1913. The marathon pitted man and machine against rugged terrain, taking contestants over treacherous roads and trails to the top of the mountain and back. Contestants had the choice of using automobiles or the railroad to help them get to the point at which they would have to start running up the mountain side.
The idea for the marathon was developed by the Mt. Baker Club, a group of conservation minded citizens that were attempting to have the North Cascades area designated as part of the National Park System. The foot race to the top of Mt. Baker was a publicity stunt aimed at focusing the government's attentions on the region.
A Ski to Sea Race team consists of 8 racers (2 in the canoe leg) for the seven race legs (Cross Country Ski; Downhill Ski/Snowboard; Running; Road Bike; Canoe; Mountain Bike; Kayak). A racer can only be on one team, and only complete one leg. We also recommend a support team to carpool the team to the different race leg venues.
The race has 6 different venues in the county where the racers exchange the baton. From the top of Mt. Baker to Bellingham Bay, discover Whatcom County's recreational playground and the 'Ski to Sea' Experience.
